We have had a high quality Krups coffee maker and many others over the years. Every one has developed leaks after a few years, even Krups. The coffee does not seem to taste any better no matter how much we have spent, but we have not tried the ones that grind coffee beans just before brewing. That might make a difference.

We have a coffee grinder, but because I am impatient and lazy, I do not use it. Alas, I am not a coffee expert but just enjoy a hot mug or three each morning. When I looked at new coffee pots, it was so surprising how inexpensive they have become. Most had the features that I wanted even at the low prices. My husband was skeptical when he saw the brand because he thought they only made tools.

I chose this model because it has the automatic cutoff after two hours. That is a real safety measure. It also has the sneak a cup feature but I do not find that the coffee is quite as good as if the whole pot is brewed. I also have had the grounds overflow the filter and stop up the hole where the coffee flows into the pot. That caused a real mess all over the counter. Now I check the filter holder each morning to make sure its hole is clean.

The filter holder is accessed by lifting the lid that covers it and the water receptacle I lift it out each time to dump the paper filter into the trash and rinse it out before putting another paper filter in. By having the filter stick to the wet sides, it insures that the filter will not collapse and cause the grounds to go into the pot. You have to be sure to insert it properly so that it nests securely into its spot or you will have water overflow the filter because it sneak a cup hole is not held open when it should be.

When filling the water holder I sometimes miss and spill water on the counter. It is a bit inconvenient with the lid sticking up to the rear of the unit because you have to pour at an angle. The scale that shows the level of water in the container is hard to read as it is on the right side of the unit. If you turn the unit so you can see it, it is harder to fill with water. When pouring coffee from the pot, you have to pour slowly or it spills under the pot lid instead of going completely out the spout. I try to remember to raise the lid while I pour which is not hard as it is hinged to the pot.

I do not use the programmed feature so do not need the clock. We already have a clock on the built in oven, microwave, toaster oven, radio and wall clock, but I guess those that want to program when to start the coffee need it. When power goes off which it does frequently around here, the clock must be reset but it is done very easily with the hour and minute buttons.

Despite the negatives, I still enjoy this coffeepot and really liked the price.
