We finally asked for an new coffee pot for Christmas. We previously had a grind and brew which I hated. It was a pain, hard to clean and just way too complicated for 6:00 am.

This HB pot is fantastic. First, no more coffee filters…it has a built in mesh basket which is great for someone like me who has many times been so groggy in the morning that I have forgotten the filter all together and ended up with a nasty mess and coffee all over the counter and floor. The basket lifts out for each cleaning as does the plastic ‘base’ that it sits in. Both are easy to clean, dish washer safe and set right back in to the pot. No little parts to get stuck or jam up the machine and no guesswork as to how they go in. The base only goes in one way and the filter drops right in.

The thermal carafe is great. Fresh coffee all day. Just as long as you close the top after you pour your cup it keeps the coffee hot all day. There is no warming base/burner unit to forget to turn off. Once the pot is brewed the pot turns off. You can take the carafe and set it on the table, counter, etc. with no risk of leaving it on the burner to burn the last little bit of coffee in the pot. Different than the picture featured here our carafe is stainless steal. Brushed finish and easy to clean.

The pot unit itself has a clock and timer feature. The clock is so easy to program that I didn’t need the book. My last pot flashed 12:00 for at least a year because it was so complicated I had to take out the book to set the clock and just never did. Not this one, it was set when I plugged it in.

One thing I didn’t know when I asked for one was that this pot only hold 8 cups of coffee. Okay but we are used to 12 so we actually go through an entire pot instead of having a cup or so left over. Great from a money conscience stand point, but I’m not sure if my husband is actually not getting that last cup because it isn’t there.

As for the ‘go’ feature. This pot comes with 2 travel mugs. Again different than the picture ours are stainless. These are really nice quality mugs and although we haven’t used the ‘go’ brew where you can actually put the mugs in the unit instead of the carafe and have the coffee brewed right into them, we have used them to poor coffee from the carafe into to take with us and they don’t drip or spill and keep the coffee hot.

The water basin is clearly marked as to where to fill to if you are going to brew 1 mug, 2 mugs or just regular cups of coffee into the carafe. I was really looking forward to trying out this feature but unfortunately I dropped one of the mugs onto the concrete and cracked the bottom and had to be thrown out. I need to do some searching and contact HB to see if I can get a replacement mug. Once I do that I will update my review with the brew to ‘go’ information and details about how easy (or not) it was to find a replacement mug.

The coffee flavor, although I think has more to do with the beans not the actual pot, is great. I have not noticed a difference between this pot and our previous pot. The one thing that is better in that regard though is that when you get down tot the last bit that has been sitting on the burner it tends to taste burnt after a time. Not with this pot because as I mentioned there is no burner. The last cup of coffee is just as fresh as the first out of this thermal carafe.

All in all this pot is easy to use. It is easy to clean and has a sleek modern look which I like. I have moved away from a white coffee pot forever. If you are in the market for a new coffee pot I definitely recommend the HB stay or go.
