I received the Black & Decker 12 cup Versabrew from my grandmother for Christmas. Prior to receiving this gift, I was using a Corell percolator (you know, the old fashioned stovetop pot with the cage inside). I may return to my trusty old (15 years) percolator.

I am finding the Versabrew to be a real pain in the neck. This coffee maker has the "sneak a cup" feature, whereby you are supposed to be able to remove the pot during brewing to pour a cup. I am afraid to even try this. It is too difficult to get the pot on and off the hot plate when it is empty (due to the stopper that extends from the filter basket and connects to the lid), I am not feeling brave enough to try it when there is hot coffee involved!

Speaking of the filter basket — that is another irritant. It swings out ok, but good luck trying to remove it or put it back in. It requires extreme coordination and a little too much patience — neither of which I possess before I have had coffee in the morning.

This coffeemaker also has an autobrew feature — set the timer, and it brews right on schedule. I love waking up in the morning and smelling fresh, hot coffee. I hate trying to figure out at night if the feature is set. An indicator light lets you know the autobrew function is set. Let me clarify — a microscopic indicator dot that is tucked in the bottom right corner of the digital clock panel and usually requires a magnifying lens to be seen. You better set up your coffee brewing early in the evening before you are too tired to see the tiny dot.

As for the lid to the pot — it is hard to get on and off. If the connecting pegs last more than another month I will be surprised.

I was under the impression that Black & Decker had high quality products, but the design of this coffeemaker is causing me to rethink that opinion.
