I bought this coffee maker after seeing it on the history chanel on a show about the history of coffee. I came here first to read what everyone had to say first. Let me say that the cool factor of this coffee maker is off the charts. I used it for a whole week and now it gathers dust in my cabinet. I knew from the start this coffee maker was messy and it is, it takes a few minutes to clean the grounds out of top pot, but using a silicone spatula it is not too hard.

I was not impressed with the cup of coffee that came out of it. I tried changing my grind size and amount with little help. The coffee did not come out as full bodied and flavorful as my automatic drip. I checked and the water was hitting 212 degrees fahrenheit, It boiled for 30 seconds and flowed back into the lower pot.

I was hoping for a cup of coffee that tasted at least as good as my auto drip and it was not even close, if I rated my auto as a 10 the Bodum is a 6. The finer the grind was the more sediment I got, but I could live with that. I should add that I use a Kitchen Aid burr grinder and grind my beans right before brewing in filtered water with a 12 cup Cuisenart cone filter coffee maker.

The brew time is just a little longer than a auto drip, setting up the pot is not hard you just have to make sure the top pot is properly seated so you can get a vacuum seal for it to work. The biggest problem was getting a proper fit on the electrical contacts for the heating element in the pot to come on.

The controls on the bottom plate are fairly simple and the display is on the tiny side but still readable, read the instructions first as they will help.

Overall I found the coffee maker easy to set up and use and while a little harder to clean I expected that when I bought it. I just was not impressed with the coffee flavour and body.
