I use thermal carafe coffeemakers because my sister-in-law has a habit of smashing the glass carafes in the sink. Purely by accident, she assures me but, she never does the dishes either. Go figure.

I am also a big believer in using activated charcoal filters to clean the water before making coffee, and this maker has one built in.

Coffee only has two ingredients — water and coffee. If you are not using the best ingredients, you’re not going to get the best coffee. Why spend $14 a pound on starbuck’s coffee only to use tapwater filled with spurious odors, particulates, and flavors that will ruin the coffee?

My fill tube never gets bubbles, maybe because I fill from a Brita Water pitcher instead of the carafe itself. Normally, the carafe is full of scalding hot water while I grind the beans before making the coffee.

In the two years I’ve had this it has NEVER overflowed because the filter basket and the coffeepot weren’t properly aligned. This pot doesn’t suffer from the over-exact alignment issues that other coffeemakers have.

My only complaint is that although there is a way to turn the “finished brewing” alarm, I can never remember how to do it. It is not obvious. Otherwise, I found programming to be simple, just like thousands of other coffeemakers, but I suppose that’s just me.

Now that my sister-in-law has learned NOT to wash the coffeemaker by immersing it in the sink, I expect to have this machine for a very, very long time.
