This review was revised to add details on the pre-program feature as well as other specifics.

Model 47454. We finally tired of our percolators dying a quick death and switched to this drip. So far, the BrewStation Deluxe is working perfectly. Coffee is hot, takes about as long as perk (1 minute per cup). It’s EZ to use though a little threatening when you open the box (it’s so different). It makes 1-12 cups so it’s very flexible, and setup / time reset is a cinch.

The BrewStation Deluxe looks and works a little differently than a typical drip pot, but it’s very easy to use. Remove the handled pot-styled fill tank and add water. Fill tank has water measure lines on two sides for EZ view as you fill. Pour water in to the reservoir and place fill tank in the unit. Fill the gold tone filter with coffee, place over the fill tank. Place the cover on and hit the On/Off button. The BrewStation will now force the water up to brew and hold the brewed coffee in a separate reservoir where a no-touch heating element keeps the coffee nice and hot. It will gurgle a little as it brews.

This model comes with 4 coffee making options: Regular, Decaf (didn’t notice a difference), 1-4 cups (brews slower for full bodied coffee; always an issue with short pots of drip coffee), and Flavor Plus (have not tried yet).

Another very exciting feature to this coffee aficionado is the ability to make fresh brewed Iced Coffee! Your iced coffee comes out fresh, cold, and ready to drink. Just add water, coffee, ICE, and brew as normal. Adding ICE makes instructions a little different so read the booklet. If you don’t have an ice maker remember, you’ll need to use many of your cubes. Winter is almost upon us here in the NE so I’ll have to wait until next summer to enjoy my fresh brewed ice coffee!

Finally, the BrewStation features one-hand dispensing. I’ve grown very used to this feature. No more picking up pots, or dripping pots, or breaking pots, just place your mug under the dispenser and push for a quick one-handed fill. Your mug will fill rather quickly as the dispenser has a large spout and yes, a travel mugs fit!

NEW: Yes, you can set this baby at night to automatically start in the morning! Make your coffee as usual. Verify clock is set for correct time of day. Press and hold the PROG button for 3 seconds (digits will flash). CONTINUE pressing the PROG button while you press the H (hours) and M (minutes) buttons until your desired morning brew time is reached. Release the PROG button. The clock will return to display the time of day. Now, a quick touch of the PROG button and a green light will illuminate. Go to bed. May sound complicated, but it’s not.

Other Details: Large EZ to read illuminated digital display. Tells you when to clean the water filter or unit (mine has not told me when yet so no review on that feature). Not often talked about are the shallow wheels on the bottom to assist in turning the unit for filling (fills from the back). Nice touch.

Unless something dramatic happens in my future, I consider this the perfect machine! You should definitely go for the HB BrewStation, the Deluxe model.

Other reviews mentioned leaking. I have not had this happen but my machine is only 1 1/2 months old, though very used already. If it does, I’ll revise my review.

Possible Leaking Source and On Electronics In General: I’ve learned to be careful when I shop for anything electronic at Home Depot, WalMart and the likes. While these discounters offer great prices, often times, these retailers submit “their” manufacturing preferences to manufacturers to keep the cost down so you may not be getting exactly what you think you are getting. Observe and compare the model number AND the prefixes and suffixes. The letters before and after may be your indication that that specific model is “Made for WalMart”. Remember, THERE ARE NO GREAT DEALS!

This review is for model #47454. There is a newer model, #47474. According to HB, these models are identical in features. Only difference is cosmetic / color. Choose Black with a little silver tone on the facade, Platinum for more of a stainless look; White and Red colors are coming so you’ll be able to match most kitchen designs.

Switching from perk coffee to drip was not easy for us as we truly enjoy perk coffee, but waking to cold coffee or a cord burning starting me thinking of danger, and the $60+ investment 2-3 times/year grew tiring. We investigated every kind of drip out there and decided on the HB BrewStation Deluxe. So far this baby is perfect!

Percolators just aren’t what they used to be. The new licensee has to have done something to this percolator (thermostats go fast, and cord wears far too fast). And, I’m not sure if it was the GE machine itself (model 106856) or the model GE made for WalMart, but two of these percolators went within weeks of purchase (this model is not longer listed with WalMart). Sad. Some good things have just lost out in this new world of technological advancements.
