I was offered a free Senseo coffee maker through a “Share Senseo” promotion that Philips was having. I paid $15 shipping & handling and received my coffee maker. Otherwise, I likely would not have purchased one, because I generally us a french press when I want just one or two cups of coffee.

However, I was impressed with the quality of the coffee that the Senseo brews. It’s hot & strong, which is what I was hoping for, and it is really, really easy to make, without much cleanup at all. I’ve only brewed the medium roast that came with the machine, and I’ve used two pods at a time for an 8 oz cup of coffee (as directed). And, as I said, it was surprisingly good.

The machine is sleek & attractive as well, which is definitely a plus.

The only downside I can see is that I very often pick up whole beans when I’m traveling, or when I see a new selection at my local grocery, and I’m sad that I won’t be able to to use those in my Senseo. Actually, the coffee snob in me is still trying to get over using pods instead of fresh ground beans. I will try at least some of the other kinds of coffee pods offered, but I’ve not shopped for them yet, so I’m not sure what variety I’ll actually be able to find. I will definitely not be purchasing any of the “cappuccino” pods, and the fact that Senseo offers them turned me off. Cappuccino is espresso & steamed milk, not whatever nasty stuff Senseo has crammed into a pod.

Overall, though, I’m pleased, and I’ll be using my Senseo quite a lot.
