The raison d’etre for a new coffee maker was to be able to keep the coffee hot a while after brewing. So I looked for an insulated carafe. This model was rated relatively high in consumer reports so I gave it a shot.
There was an improvement in how long the coffee stayed hot but I feel it still fell short of my expectations. Perhaps others are no better though, I don’t know as I’ve not used them. They claim it keeps the coffee “hot” for hours. Hmm maybe my house is cold? The taste of the coffee itself was so so, not bad not extremely good. For some reason there is no automatic shut off so you have to remember to turn it off after you’ve brewed. Despite all this there are some good things about it.
There is no heating plate so nothing gets hot. For that matter immediately after brewing you can place the carafe on anything as the entire carafe including the bottom is perfectly cool. I would assume this is true of most insulated carafes too but do test them first.
It’s extremely simple, an on/off switch, that’s it. The removable water tank is very nice too. You can bring it to the water source instead of bringing the water to the coffee maker. It has modern look for sure.
Final analysis, it failed to the stay “hot” requirement. I wonder what the other insulated carafes could deliver?
