The Salton MES2 is essentially the same machine as the Melitta One, and the Juan Valdez JV machine.

These machines all use singe serving, pre-manufactured pods to produce a nearly instant cup of coffee. The procedure is simple: fill the water reservoir, press the one button and wait a minute or so for it to heat up. When the water is heated, press either the small or large cup button and in less than a minute, your coffee is ready.

I do believe that these single cup brewers represent the future of coffee brewing, but the Salton, like the JV, uses a pump that is too small and a pod holder that is too small. Using a home-made pod, you can produce very good coffee with this coffee maker, but only on the small cup setting, otherwise the coffee is too weak for my liking. The Senseo has two different sized pod holders, one for a single and one for two pre-manufactured pods.

Also, I contacted Salton about a broken pod holder on another machine I used, the JV also made by Salton, and it took them over 4 months to send me the replacement part (which they did send, for free, eventually and to their credit).

But the real issue is that there is a much better machine out there, the Phillips Senseo. It is inexpensive, durable, and forgiving, and makes the best coffee in the world.

So, in summary, the Salton coffee maker is capable of making good, quick coffee if you make your own pods, but there are better options out there.
