We purchased the Senseo Single-Serve Coffee Machine because we saw it on sale and had wanted to try it.

The set-up was quick and easy - just a quick flush of water and we were ready to brew our first cup in no time.

Quick is definitely the way to describe using this machine. You fill the water reservoir with cold water and once you press the power button, it takes about 90 seconds for the machine to warm up. There are two pod holders included, one that holds one pod, and one that holds two. Pick the one you want, put the pod or pods on it and close the top.

The outflow unit is set up that it pours coffee out of both sides, so you can put 2 cups next to each other or just one in the middle to catch all the coffee. There are two easy to use buttons that tell you if you want one cup (4oz) or 2 cups/1 mug (8oz).

There are really two main parts to clean - the pod holder and the outflow unit, so clean up is quite easy.

The coffee itself brews in about a minute, and the pods come in a variety of flavors. We found that we had some pods that we had that fit with it, so you can probably use other brand pods if you don’t like the taste or cost of the senseo pods.

About the coffee - the one cup serving size is only 4 ounces, which is more like a shot of coffee, so you might prefer to use 2 pods and make a mug (8 oz), however that can get expensive. Personally, I like my coffee on the weak side, so I don’t mind using 1 pod for a mug size, but my husband tried doing that and found it to be more like flavored hot water. The other thing worth mentioning is that it brews all its coffee with a foamy froth on top - no matter the flavor. Also, I have quite a few mugs that are high and tall as opposed to the traditional short wide normal design - and they do not fit in the machine.

That said, I enjoy it - it’s great when we don’t want to make a full pot of coffee - I even use it without a pod to make hot water for a quick cup of tea or cocoa.

UPDATE - I’m adding in about the rest of the ‘gift pack’ since I left those items out. It comes with 2 tin coffee pod cannisters (each with a device to help you get the pods out), thermal travel mug which works as well as any other basic travel mug. The best part of the gift pack is the coffee pods it comes with. I happened to pick the gift pack because I was able to get it on sale and I had a coupon for the store. The regular machine comes with coffee pods too - so if you’re not getting a great deal like I did I wouldn’t spend an extra $20 for just 2 tin cannisters and a travel mug.
