About six months ago I was rooting around in my cabinets and trying to get rid of some things that I don’t use any longer. I ran across my old Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker just sitting there.

I have had this same coffeemaker for at least ten years if not longer. I bought it when my family and I were living in a hotel and the coffee was costing us $2.00 per cup. Our house wasn’t finished at the time and we didn’t know how much longer we would have to endure hotel living.

My husband likes coffee before he went to work in the mornings and I like to have some with him. One of us would have to go to the coffee shop and pick up a couple cups, which was costing us $4.00 plus tips every time we wanted coffee. Having a second cup was out of the question at those prices.

After getting the kids off to school, I decided to explore our new city and try to find a coffeemaker that wouldn’t bankrupt me so that we could enjoy hot beverages. It was cold and snowy outside and I wanted the kids to have something warm when they came in. They weren’t used to cold, after all they were born and raised in Florida and we moved them to New Jersey. I found the Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker at Sears.

That afternoon after I picked up the kids from school I decided it was time to test out the Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker.

I took it out of the box, washed all the components.

The Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker comes with the coffeemaker, cord, lid, filter basket, tube that you place the filter basket on.

The Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker can make anywhere from two to 12 cups of coffee. They have what is called a cup a minute perk time. That means if you should choose two cups then it will be ready in two minutes and if you choose 12 cups then the coffee will be ready in 12 minutes.

The Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker has no fancy bells or whistles that come with it. You can’t grab a cup in the middle of the perk cycle. Just makes good coffee.

I just heated water for the kids to have hot cocoa. I filled the pot to 12 cups and it was ready in 12 minutes. I had to time it to make sure that their claims were correct.

That night while we were just sitting around the hotel room I decided that the real test would be the coffee so I made a pot for my husband and myself and was really surprised, it made great coffee.

There was no burnt taste and I used a paper filter in the basket so grounds would not fall through. Grounds make the last cup really bad.

The coffee that comes out of the Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker tends to be hotter than that of the new drip machines but it still makes great coffee.

When using the Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker you fill the pot to the desired amount of water. There are markings on the inside of the pot to indicate the cups. Place the filter tube in the little indention at the bottom of the pot then place the filter basket on top of the tube. If this isn’t standing straight in the pot then you don’t have it inserted properly. After that is done place the lid on top and plug in.

You will start hearing some rumbling inside the pot. It isn’t loud; you have to listen for it then the perking will start. There is a red light on the outside of the pot and when that comes on, the coffee is ready.

Within two to twelve minutes you should have some great tasting coffee. The handle on the lid is made of a plastic that does get warm to the touch but not hot.

On the outside of the Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker there is a nice sturdy handle that is made of plastic and it doesn’t get hot to the touch. It covers ¾ of one side of the pot. That makes for easy pouring.

When cleaning you can place the tube and filter basket in the dishwasher but the pot itself has to be hand-washed. You cannot submerge this in water as the electrical elements are in the bottom.

When you have finished cleaning all you need to do is use a soft cloth on the outside to keep it shiny like it was new.

The Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker is once again sitting on my counter being used on a regular basis. It is really nice when you have a lot of people over as it does make a larger amount of coffee.

The price can vary especially online. I have seen it go from $39.00 to over seventy. Right now you can purchase it from brandsmall.com for $37.98. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/brandsmall/0004-02811.html

If you want a coffeemaker that is inexpensive yet gives years of lasting results this is the one for you.

If for some reason something happens to the cord of the Presto Stainless Steel Coffeemaker it can be replaced.
