For many years I’ve had a Black & Decker “Single” serving mug type coffee maker. It’s major problem was that the grounds would splash up and coat the water dispenser. It would also dump the water on the counter if the basket was not seated correctly, and the cone filters - either too small or too large. With the DRX5, you can’t close the top if the basket is not inserted correctly, so there is no possibility of dumping water.

I picked up the DRX5 on a whim, because I wanted to be up early the next day and wanted to have coffee ready (note - it doesn’t work if you forget the water).

Once I added water, it made the coffee faster than the B&D, and no evidence of ground splash-back.

It doesn’t require any more coffee grounds than the B&D - and all of them stay in the filter, so the coffee is stronger than the B&D. Once I remembered to add water, the delay brew has worked perfectly every morning. I also like that it stays hot - the B&D didn’t use a warming plate - it was a grab-n-go mug.

I will be getting a replacement carafe (haven’t broken it yet, but I’m a klutz, and the cats like playing with gravity), which is the original reason I got the B&D - no breaking. I’ll also try a perma-filter.

So far, after 2 weeks of use, I am very satisfied with the way this works, the coffee produced.
