I bought this item 6 weeks ago on Amazon and was initially pleased. It makes good coffee, but it really doesn’t keep smaller (less than 4 cups) of coffee hot, or even warm, for more than an hour (yes, I have the lid on tight with the cap on top!). No big - that’s what the microwave is for. I will agree with other reviewers that the lid is very hard to get off if you have it on tight - the ridges in the lid really dig into your hand. I always have to use a towel if I inadvertently get the lid on tight. And yes, it is annoying that you can’t tell how much coffee is left in the caraffe, or how much water you put in it to begin with. If you are not making a full pot, you have to pour the water in the machine, wait a few seconds for the little water level indicator to pop up, pour in some more, wait some more. You get the idea. Several times I had to put in more grounds and make more coffee than I wanted to (and thus threw it away) because I inadvertently put in a cup too much water. I know it’s just coffee, but I buy very expensive beans and the waste annoys me. Anyway, my big issue with the product is that it just died - after 6 weeks of using it about 4 times a week. Now I have to waste my time and money mailing this dumb thing to Zojirushi to fix it, because Amazon won’t take it back. My 4 cup Mr. Coffee has been working just fine for at least 8 years, and I use it daily. Next time I’ll buy this kind of item somewhere that takes returns after 30 days, and I’ll do a little research on product reliability.
