I’ve had this coffee maker for a little over a year now, and there are pros and cons.

On the plus side, it makes a great pot of coffee, and relatively fast. Very important when you want a fresh cup of brew with as little hassle as possible in the morning. I guess the semi-sealed coffee ground chamber does make a difference - anyway, the coffee tastes better than the stuff my Braun used to make. I should mention that because this unit brews so fast, I never really make use of the timer feature, which is nice.

One other feature I really love is that I can remove the pot and pour some coffee during brewing. A small switch on the hot plate stops the brewing until the pot is put back on the burner. Very nice! You can also quickly and easily disassemble the brewing parts and toss them into the dishwasher hassle-free.

On the negative side, pouring water into the unit is next to impossible without splashing some - the top has an odd curved design. Minor issue, but worth mentioning.

The biggest negative I’ve found so far is that when brewing a full 8-10 cups, the unit may actually brew a bit too fast. As a result, the grind chamber fills with water to fast, and overflows. This happens too often.

I should also mention that one morning after making some coffee, I noticed the smell of burning plastic (uh oh.) I traced the smell to the unit, and found out that the burner had burned through the plastic housing at the bottom of the unit (yikes!)

I placed a call to Cuisnart and mentioned this potential fire hazard, and they replaced the entire unit under warranty without a complaint. I’m not sure if this was a fluke or a problem with the unit itself, something to watch for.
