I love brewed coffee but hated the idea of wasting so much of it every time I wanted a cup of coffee. When I lived alone, making more than two cups at a time and having a large coffee maker on my kitchen counter made no sense.

So this coffee maker was perfect for a coffee lover living alone. The unit was small enough to fit on my kitchen counter and still leave room for my other appliances. This unit took up about half of the space my toaster took up. And I was able to make a single serving of coffee at a time. Since this unit comes with a permanent filter, I didn’t have to buy disposable filters. The only disadvantage with the permanent filter is that grounds of coffee did sometimes go through it and wound up on the thermos lid. So for fine brewing I would recommend using additional filtering.

Other than the occasional grounds in the coffee, you can also wind up with spilled coffee if not careful. Some of the coffee tends to pool on the thermos‘ lid. So I recommend swishing the coffee around so that it goes into the thermos before attempting to take the lid off.

Another disadvantage is that this thermos is not the best for traveling. The handle makes the container cumbersome and the lack of a lid for the sipping hole does not make this a genuine travel container. So I usually wound up pouring my coffee into another thermos.

Overall, this coffee maker is pretty practical. It has automatic shut-off and is a small appliance. It’s quite affordable–I’ve seen it as cheap as $8. You save money on filters, and waste less coffee. Despite its drawbacks, I would say this coffee maker is completely worth it.
