My first comment about this machine is it is sub-standard. I had a problem with my Krups NOVO 3000 FNC2 Espresso Machine ( $199.00) and brought it back to Bed Bath and Beyond. They did not carry it anymore so they gave me it’s new equivalent, XP 4000. I returned the one they gave me because it lacked steaming power. The steamer was SO weak. The new one was just the same, so I can conclude that this is how it is designed. The pump sounds smaller and weaker. I loved my Krups NOVO 3000. I was able to get great micro foam and it had a great steamer on it. I did not use the foamer on it. I like to use just the chrome steel steamer faucet end because you have full control on ventilating air into the milk to get great micro foam. The XP 4000 has a very very weak steamer. It could not make any micro foam if your life depended on it. It also takes twice as long to get your milk up to 160 deg. They advertise their XP 4000 has a foaming tip that gives great foam every time, that is the farthest from the truth. You get bubbles the size of dimes and pencil erasers on the back of pencils ( he he ) There is one thing that this machine has that I liked better then my old Krups Novo 3000 is it has a very heavy and quality cast filter holder handle and filter setup. It also holds the filter in without any worries about losing it in the trash can when cleaning out the grounds. As you can tell I REALLY dislike this unit. Krups really failed on this one. They cheapened out the the steamer to the point of being almost worthless. You really can tell a difference in your Latte’s with good micro foam and none at all. I no longer look forward to my morning Lattes now. I am trying to replace this one with a Krups NOVO 3000 if there are any left after being discontinued or just change brands. You could not pay me money to keep this unit. I don’t have the money to buy a $500 machine. I may look into a Capresso Espresso Pro ( not the classic or classic Lux that have weak steamers ) that got high ratings that is in the $250 range. My brother-in laws $49 cheapy Krups machine works 5 times better then this sub-standard machine.
