The Krups XP-4000 espresso maker offers a 1200-watt, 15 bar pump machine that brews cafe quality espresso. It features a removable stainless steel drip tray, 32-oz. Removable water tank and a large metal selector dial to instantly and easily go from making espresso to frothing milk for cappuccino. The steam-pressurized system with pressure safety valve mixes steam and air precisely for a perfect froth. The filter holder includes 3 interchangeable pre-measured inserts that hold a single, double, or E.S.E. pod.

Milk steamer is a dud

Pros: Very good espresso, good looking and respectibly solid construction, not too large so doesn’t take up too much space in kitchen
Weaknesses: Milk steamer doesn’t work
If you just want espresso and don’t care about lattes or cappuccinos, go ahead. But if you want that good hot frothy milk, this machine just can’t do it. Krups built a dud.

It’s perplexing that Krups would make such a good looking and solid machine and give it a completely inadequate milk steamer. It’s just awful, sputters pitiful steam and dribbles hot water into the milk — and the milk never gets more than lukewarm. Very frustrating. Foolishly, I didn’t read around before I bought it online from across country. If you get it, get it locally so if you want to return it you can walk it over instead of paying shipping costs.

Krups XP4000 / XP 4000 Espresso machine

Pros: Easy to handle; makes nice espresso with ok crema
Weaknesses: Extremely weak steamer. Totally impossible to get milk foam for your cappuccino
(Edited September 11th by espressolover) Just to clarify upfront: I have been using Krups espresso machines for 10 years back in Europe. All of them made very nice milk foams, delicious espressos and capuccinos.

So this is a real disappointment: This model (XP4000), however, produces a very weak steam stream, which only heats up the milk - but no foam (only big bubbles) - and even this takes several minutes. Krups suggests to use very cold milk (low fat or skim) for best results, but whatever I tried, it did not lead to any foam.
So: Clearly, don”t buy this one!

PS: It’s “Made in China” …

For the price, this thing can not be beat.

Pros: Makes excellent Espresso, with a rich and thick crema. Very fast, not too noisy. and very easy to use.
Weaknesses: The steamer attachment work adequatly, but seems a touch weak, and since there is no knob to release the steam, you have to hold your cup there until the steam starts.
I work for a Food Distribution company. An Italian espresso company sent us one of there very expesive capsule machines for us to try in hopes that we would carry their capsules. This machine made great Espresso, which I quickly got hooked on… until the capsules were gone. I went to the store and bought a steam powered machine and was very dissapointed with the results. After much shopping and fretting, I finally decided to pick this up because it wasn’t too expensive. Thinking if it was not good, I could always return it.
Needless to say, I was more than thrilled with the results. I honestly beleive that this makes better espresso, with a much nicer crema, than the pricey capsule system.
You can’t go wrong with this machine.

Nice Machine for two

Pros: It makes nice espresso with good crema. It is also very fast and simple to maintain.
Weaknesses: Steamer is a bit on the weak end.
I make lattes for my wife and myself everyday. I had a Capresso before and it broke just after the warranty was up. That same night I went out and bought this machine, and have been pleased with it since.
