Pros: Makes excellent coffee.
Weaknesses: Water reservoir more difficult to fill than on drip machine. Lid does not fit on machine without filter basket.

Paper filters may be hard to find.
Coffee has less of a bitter taste than with most drip machines. Use coffee ground finer than drip but not quite as fine as espresso grind. The machine is worthwhile for people willing to spend a bit more time filling machine and cleaning up than with drip in exchange for richer tasting coffee.

This coffee maker makes simply excellent coffee, better than any drip coffee maker I’ve used. Coffee comes out rich and flavorful, and slightly less bitter than with drip machines. This machine actually distills the water before it makes the coffee, which is nice considering that public tap water can sometimes have a slightly unpleasant taste.

This coffee maker uses proprietary filters, available directly from Krups. They are more expensive than normal filters, so that’s something to think about.

I purchased this item for over $100. Considering its price, this item doesn’t have many features. It doesn’t have a digital timer, thermal caraffe, or built in grinder. Still, if you are a coffee aficianado, this item is worth the price, in my opinion. The quality of coffee is about as good as I’ve tasted.
