Decent Basic Machine

Pros: Size, Price, Decent quality shots, good foaming apparatus
Weaknesses: steaming bar locked in place (doesn’t swivel) low pressure, light difficult to see so easy to leave on
Background. I am not a barista or employeed as such, but have volunteered at my church for a few years running the espresso machine. I was trained by a coffe house crew and feel pretty comfortable making a good shot, and we use a type of machine you would typically find in small coffe house or roadside coffee shack.

With that in mind, if you expect to produce a shot of espresso that compares with one you would find at starbucks or an independant, this won’t satisfy you. This is mainly due to the pressure of the water coming through the coffee and since this product doesn’t have a pressure pump and requires expansion of water from heating to provide the pressure, the force of the water through the shot will be weaker and not able to extract the quality of flavor from the grounds.

It also will have a tendency to burn the grounds and impact taste in that manner. What I mean by this is since the pressure and temperature have to build up so much for the shot to be “drawn” that the metal receptable the ground go in heats up and stays hot which begins to cook the ground prior to the extraction process. Pump machines send the hot water through quickly and extract without burning the grounds.

Yet it is quite easy to use and I have long since realized that there is a tradeoff with price and taste. I can sacrifice some of the flavor differences for the convience and price this machine offers.

As far as how this performs compared to other krups models, we previously had a krups il primo that we used for years. It was similar in size and shape and seemed more durable. It also seemed to have better flavor of espresso, however this ones steam attachement does a better job with the foaming part.

Last thoughts, buying a good quality bean, storing it correctly and grinding just before use will maximize the flavor this machine can produce.

Also, don’t allow to much water to go through the grounds, definately adjust the water to the amount of espresso.
If the extraction goes to long the water begins to extract some of the bitter chemicals (tannins). The first part of the extraction extracts the colors and aromatic flavors. Running it to long ruins the flavor.

I purchased this machine as a wedding gift and the bride and groom loved it. They have not had any problems with it, and use it multiple times a day. I own a different model Krups espresso machine and I have to say that Krups is a high-quality, reliable brand. The only suggestion I would have for Krups is that they provide some cleaning solution, as I have had a difficult time finding the type of cleaning solution that they recommend.

Great little machine!

Pros: This machine is quick! It heats and foams the milk perfectly. Coffee brews quickly. Very easy to use.
Weaknesses: Can’t find any weaknesses so far.
This machine was a replacement for a family favorite cappucino maker so I was really hoping it would please me. I was very impressed. Makes a great cup of espresso and terrific cappucino. My son, who is in the restaurant business, said the cappucino is as good as what he serves.

Cost performance espresso machine

This is a great espresso machine at a very low price as compared to other professional models. It works great in both making espresso and steaming milk. The steam nozzle is a bit hard to clean, but it should be common to all espresso machines. The size of the machine is smaller than regular coffee makers, and it does not take much space.

Pretty good machine

Pros: does not occupy a lot of space, has enough pressure, makes good frothy layer especially for cappucinos
Weaknesses: I could not really get the creamy layer on my espressos. I wish the carafe were bigger. Manual could be better to understand and more varieties can be given.
This machine is pretty good. It has an elegant design and enough pressure. This is my first espresso machine. I especially like making cappucinos in this machine. as I said, I wish the carafe was bigger because it is barely enough for two regular cups. Easy to clean. Very portable. Overall, I would recommend it.

Functional and cheap

We have been using it for almost a month and simply love how simple it is to use and clean. You don’t need expensive machines when such a simple one works so efficiently.
