Could this coffee pot BE any cooler?!! Cuisinart Brew Central DCC 1200W 12 Cup Coffee Maker When I went shopping for a new Coffee Pot, I had one thing in mind - it had to be silver. This turned out to be h...
I awakened two days ago and stumbled to the kitchen for my early morning infusion of coffee only to find that my long loved Braun had died sometime in its’ sleep during the night. Deeply saddened and extremely grumpy, I came to epinions to figure out what to purchase to replace it.
After reading, I wrote down the Cuisinart DCC-1200 and the Braun KF-187. Time being of the essence, we went to a local department store to purchase my new friend. I was leaning toward the Braun due to the reviews and my previous experience, but found that both large local department stores quit carrying them. Thus, the Cuisinart it was.
We got it home, read the manual to figure it out, and proceeded to make coffee. Listed below are some of the features:
* Adjustable warmer plate temperature
* Self cleaning
* Programmable clock and brewing
* Charcoal water filter
* Audible alert for coffee and prior to shut-off
* Ability to make smaller amount (1-4 cups) of coffee
* Gold mesh filter included
In terms of the features, this machine had everything I could possibly desire. Most companies (i.e. Braun) used to sell the gold filter separately, but are now including it with the coffee maker. There is one caveat to the gold filter; if you have high cholesterol, you may want to stick with paper. The gold filter lets through extra oils from the beans that the paper filters out.
As we started to make the coffee, we noticed that the reservoir is somewhat awkward. The filter basket is located in the front under the top lid that lifts up, and the opening to pour the water is rather small and located behind and to the left of the filter basket. The chances of pouring the water into the filter basket seem rather high.
The main issue with this coffee maker is the taste of the coffee. I am not by any means a coffee expert, but we grind our beans for each brew and tend to like full bodied coffees. The coffee produced by this machine was swill. I am very much into the value of a product versus the price. If the machine made great coffee and had a longevity that was acceptable (minimum of 5 years), then the $100 price is worth it. In this case, I find this machine to be of poor value. We are taking it back to the store and we are going to the Braun. There are some for auction on eBay right now for under $40US including shipping. I will let you know how that one works when we get it.
