Good Grief. This morning My SECOND 2 week coffeemaker refused to make coffee. So, off to see if we can find a percolator anywhere in this blighted town. Yes. I found a percolator. It is not so fancy as the one we used for years. But it is chrome, looks like it will be okay and home we came. Dare I say, viola, happy people, and a full pot of coffee gives us hope.

Now if the honeymoon will only last longer than 2 weeks. I will give a periodic update.

The percolator is a standard, like the one my parents used, like the one I used for a long time. It has a detachable electric cord, stem, basket and lid, and a top. The body of the pot is chrome, has a handle and a spout. That pretty well sums up a percolator. Fill the body of the pot with water, add the stem and basket, fill the basket with grounds, or in our case put in a paper filter…. Cut a hole in it and it fits right over the stem, add the coffee grounds, place basket lid on top of the basket, add top to percolator. Plug the cord into pot and into wall socket and perking begins. Lovely sound.

Son had a cup, big smile. Husband had a cup, big smile. I have had 3, smiles all over.

Blurb regarding the pot reads: This elegant polished aluminum coffee percolator brews and serves five to nine cups of hot coffee. For accurate filling, the carafe has water level markings on its interior. The detachable cord lets you brew anywhere and an automatic temperature control keeps coffee warm as long as it is plugged into an outlet. The lock-on lid and dripless pouring spout prevent any spillage during pouring.

So far, one pot into our honeymoon, the pot is a nice aluminum, we all drink sizeable cups and there remains coffee in the pot. I filled water to just below the basket. The cord is long enough I don’t have to contort to plug it in, short enough that it is not draped all over for little hands to tug. It is proving dripless…. Gosh that is worth a smile right there.

The pot comes with a booklet written in English, Spanish and French, the usual safeguards and warnings are offered. A drawing of the various parts that should have been in the box are shown and labeled. How to make coffee, heat water and clean the percolator are added for the first time coffee making person. A chart re how much water is used with how much grounds is included, however taste is a matter of individual want, and after a time most of use find the right mix with or without a chart.

One important note that many who do not use percolators may not realize: the washer at the bottom of the stem remains loose. It needs to be cleaned if coffee grounds should become lodged in it.

The pot has a 2 year limited warranty, and if it works like most I have used over the years will continue working long after the warranty has run out. And a customer reference number is added, along with information as where to locate model, type and series numbers for the pot.

A caveat is added that WalMart disclaims responsibility for special, incidental, and consequential damages or losses. Now that is certainly good news since WalMart seems to have a store on many corners and is where many of us shop. Good grief.

One day into our percolator relationship everything appears to be going well. We’ll just see if in 2 weeks I’m adding another chapter in the revolving story of a man, a woman, a cup of coffee.
