The Krups Espremio FNP1 is a great little espresso machine for only $80. I really like the fact that you can fit a regular size mug under the filter basket for cappuccinos and lattes. It produces a very acceptable espresso, and the steam system works great.

HOWEVER….

If you like drinking a “double” espresso (2 shots), you are out of luck (Unless you have a lot of time and patience to pack the filter, brew the shot, and clean the filter basket TWICE. I don’t have the time or patience to do this twice, and I like my espresso drinks strong… “double” shots).

The filter basket on this particular model only holds enough espresso grounds for (1) one single shot of espresso, and Krups does NOT make a compatible “double” size filter basket for this model. Almost all the other Krups espresso machines are able to accept an optional two (2) shot metal filter basket so that you can make a “double” instead of a “single” shot espresso without going through the process twice.

I called Krups customer service and they related there is NO Double Shot filter basket for this particular model. (The folks at customer service are a little slow and not very knowledgeable about their products. They recommended I purchase a different model).

So I am looking for a different model. But if “double” shot espresso’s aren’t important to you, then this unit is very acceptable, albeit a bit messy (soupy grounds to clean). But great single-shot espresso for a very reasonable price.
