For several years I got by with an inexpensive Krups machine. I loved making espresso at home and I loved entertaining. When I saw this machine, I thought I had found a good machine. I purchased it from Dillards for $389 about a year ago. I gave my krups to my parents. Both were stupid moves.

The Capresso machine advertised better espresso, easier cleanup and good steaming/frothing capabilities. Well, I do like the espresso better as it has a better crema. But, the remainder of their claims were way off base. I have found the cleanup to be more annoying than on the Krups. Whereas the krups required cleaning after each espresso, the Capresso machine allows you to accumulate grounds and excess espresso in plastic retaining bins. At first this seems nice, but if you neglect to clean up all the time (about once a week), it is a good breeding ground for bacteria. While this has only happened to me a couple times when I was out of town, it is disgusting and reduces your appetite for espresso from your machine. It also has more parts that need cleaning weekly. I have found it to require more effort for cleaning.

The frothing/steaming capabilities are not even remotely close the the quality of a Krups machine. I have purchased a separate frothing device to add froth to our milk (which my entire family thinks is the best part of the drink). The only thing this machine is good for is heating up the milk. I have contacted customer service to find out if I am doing something wrong, but they have not replied.

I would not buy this product if I had it to do all over again. I wish I could get my Krups machine back from my parents, but that would be somewhat rude. Given my investment, I am keeping this machine until I can stomach giving up that money and investing in a new machine.
