The Flavia Coffee System; particularly the Flavia Fusion is a great coffee maker, but it’s even more! This single serve coffee maker makes delicious coffee shop specialty coffee drinks, tea, hot chocolate and even healthy beverages with its Flavia single serve ‘cartridges’.

We were first introduced to the Flavia coffee maker in my physician’s office. Their Flavia Fusion drink maker was the buzz in the waiting room. I was anxious to try this cool little coffee machine.

I selected the Flavia French Roast packet, pushed the button and in about 30 seconds I had a wonderful cup of rich coffee.

One of the staff made herself a concoction with 2 of the Flavia drink packs. It turns out this was a delicious and creamy caramel that you can then make a Flavia coffee packet for a rich FLAVIA Milky Way Latte.

After I left the doctors office I went to Macy’s to check out the availability and cost of the Flavia Fusion coffee system. They had a sale for the Flavia Fusion $129, but regularly $160. I thought that seemed a bit steep, even on sale, so I decided to go check out the internet prices.

I love the colors and the design of the Flavia… seems to blend new technology with old style, sort of reminds me of 1950’s kitchens.

The Flavia Fusion has a water reservoir that holds a cup or two more water than other single serve coffee makers and also has a replaceable water filter that some of the others don’t have. That isn’t a big deal to me because we live in Oregon and don’t have water issues.

The Fusion’s operation is simple! Put the drink cartridge in, push the button for the type of drink you are making: Coffee/Tea, Hot Chocolate, or Frothy (cappuccino) and in a matter of 30 seconds you have a delicious beverage.

There’s a button on the side of the Fusion to slide the dispenser up or down to fit the size of your cup or mug. There is also a serving size knob at the top so you can adjust the serving amounts to fit your cup and your taste. You can go as small as 4oz or as large as 8oz. An interesting note is that the Flavia Fusion drink packs seem to have more flavor than some of the other brands of single serving coffee makers.

Included with the Fusion is an 18-pack sampler of many of the drinks available. There are about 18 different coffees with several decaf options. There is a wide assortment of teas and several specialty drink packets like the Milky Way Swirl.

I have not been able to find the Flavia drink packs in any stores so I just order them online from StoutCoffee.com

They cost between .35 and 1.00 a serving depending on the type of drink. The average cost is about .45 per serving. It may seem expensive compared to regular ground coffee, but only slightly more than what other single serving coffee pods cost, with a great deal more options. If you frequent Starbucks, you know that the Flavia Fusion will save you a couple dollars on each drink.

Flavia drink pack cartridges are sold by he “rail” (usually 18 or 20) and by the case (80 or 100), depending on the drink.

So, how is the coffee? I love the dark, bold coffees and so choose accordingly and am very happy. Flavia does offer more medium roast coffees that my husband likes and that is why the Flavia Fusion is so great for us. I get my bold coffee and he can have his medium roast and we are both very satisfied.
