I moved offices about four months ago, and there’s one of these on my floor. Two months later, I was getting caffeine withdrawal headaches on a Saturday morning, having drunk so much espresso at work. Solution: get one for home.

I’ve spent quite a lot of time in Italy on vacation, and, though it pains me to say so, the coffee this machine produces is better than anything I’ve had over there. Add to that the fact that making coffee is completely hassle free, and you’re on to a complete winner.

To take you through the process. Hit the on switch. 30 seconds later the machine will be heated up (I’m used to 5 minutes with my old Italian machine). Insert a capsule, close the lid, press either the big cup or the little cup button, and 10 seconds later you have your coffee with absolutely perfect crema every time. Lift the lid, and the empty capsule drops into the bucket underneath. Making a latte is also simple, although to echo another reviewer, you need to be careful when trying the cappuccino setting on the frother as I’m still getting milk everywhere on my fourth attempt. You can also personalize the amount of water for the little and big cup buttons just by holding them down whilst dispensing.

The Nespresso service is stellar, and the seasonal coffees (e.g. cardamom), whilst sounding gimmicky, are fantastic.

I got mine reconditioned from Nespresso on eBay, saving around $200. They usually have three or four on auction.

Couldn’t recommend it more strongly if you’re serious about coffee.
