My family has had bad luck with coffeemakers. I find it funny because I work at a store and can’t highly recommend any coffee makers that will not be returned within 3 months. Some are thousands of dollars, others are poorly made, a few are funky colors, but when I purchased the Special Edition B60 coffeemaker for my father’s birthday (he’s been talking about the thing for awhile now) I knew we’d have a winner. I was used to using the B70 at SLT (retails $199 with no K cups), but at Linens n Things, we purchased the B60 (originally $149 with 18 K cups) with a 20% off coupon for $119. Can’t beat that.

This machine isn’t that heavy and is a decent size for a countertop.

Directions

Make sure water reservoir is filled. Get mug. Open lid. Insert K-cup. Close lid. Put mug under spout. Hit the size coffee/tea you would like. Hot beverage will be brewed in under 60 seconds. Grab coffee/tea. Open lid. Remove K-Cup. Throw in trash. Enjoy beverage.

Pretty simple huh?

My many opinions…

So here is the deal.

First, this machine is great for my family because we are all on different time schedules. My mom works during the day, my dad works night, my sister and I work whenever we are scheduled. With our old coffeemaker, there was ALWAYS coffee sitting in the pot. WHAT A WASTE! Then, you can’t just leave day old coffee sitting in the pot, so we used to wash the pot let it dry and then were able to reuse it. The B60 is fantastic for families like ours. You want a cup? You make a cup. No waste. No mess. Also, do you want tea in a minute? No time for the teapot? This machine runs burning hot water for your tea.

Second, the machine is easy to use and hardly any cleaning is involved. The only thing that really needs to be cleaned is the drip tray. Take a sponge and wipe it down when it gets dirty. Otherwise, this is a pretty maintenance free machine. Easy to use? Definitely. The directions above are that simple.

Third, one of my favorite words, VARIETY. My dad doesn’t like flavored coffee. He thinks it’s gross. The rest of my family, on the other hand, LOVES flavored coffee. The K-cups (small approx 2 in cups filled with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate) come in many different variety packs. You can order them on the Keurig website or at a specialty store like Sur La Table. I like the different variety because one day I may want hazelnut coffee, when the next I want French vanilla. My dad likes the different varieties of regular coffee. He has yet to choose his favorite. The coffee tastes great. We are a coffee-oriented family, so having a good cup of joe is very important. Some brands are better then others, but pick, choose, and try to find a brand that suits you.

My favorite K-cup varieties:

- Gloria Jean’s French Vanilla Coffee

- Timothy’s Irish Crème Coffee

- Green Mountain Medium Blend Coffee

- Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea

- Coffee People Organic Coffee, Dark, Extra Bold

- Ghirardelli Premium Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa packets

These are the kinds I prefer and use on a regular basis.

What I don’t like…

Keep your old machine handy when you have company over. My mom HATES how you have to brew one cup for everyone. Having a pot of coffee is easier. You can bring it to the table and help yourself. She feels like “Oh, wait a minute, let me go make 8 separate cups of coffee” is a little bit of a hassle and time consuming. 8 minutes for 8 cups and by the time she gets her cup of coffee she has to begin round 2.

Expensive. The machine is going to cost you over $100, and then you have to buy your coffee. My recommendation is to buy the My K-Cup which is a reusable K-Cup filter assembly that allows you to use your own gourmet ground coffee in your Keurig brewer. It retails for $15. Having the variety of different coffees is great, but the K-Cups are not cheap. A 18 cup box is around $11-15 depending on the brand and where you buy it. Having the My K-Cup reusable filter is easier and cheaper.

Closing remarks

I have to give this coffeemaker 5 stars.

This is something I would want in my apartment due to the efficient amount of time in which my delicious tasting coffee is made. No waste, no leftovers, and little clean-up makes for a very happy Danielle. This coffeemaker can appeal to families or individuals with little time, different schedules, etc. It’s been a few months now and we’re still going strong.
