This past weekend, my husband purchased a new, very simple to operate coffeemaker for under twenty dollars. Incredibly, the Black & Decker 12-Cup SmartBrew Coffeemaker has the one great feature that many more expensive products do not offer consumers. For our twenty bucks, we found a definite winner in this model.

FEATURES:

~One-piece Cover offers E-Z Access to Reservoir/ Brew Basket

My husband and I both strongly disliked the style of some other basic coffeemakers like the Mr.Coffee and similar brands that are designed poorly. When inspecting this Black & Decker SmartBrew coffeemaker, we both agreed that we loved the design of it. In fact, this was a great selling point and one that I am really delighted with.

On the other designs, the brew basket is located in the front of the coffeemaker in a pull out type of receptacle that never really fits well once the filter and coffee grounds are placed. During the brewing process, we always noticed that overtime the fit was less and less snug, creating a small space between the brewing basket and the rest of the coffeemaker making for less efficient brewing. Hated it!!

Our new Black & Decker SmartBrew however, is designed in a way where this can never happen. The water reservoir and the brew basket are neatly tucked inside of a one piece plastic lid that lifts up and goes down easily. The brew basket lifts out for easy dumping of the spent filter and grounds and can easily be washed and replaced. No hassles and no mess.

~~Perfect Pour Carafe

This feature, by far, is the best part of this entire sturdy little coffeemaker. For a very long time, my husband and I complained to each other about spilling our precious drops of coffee during the pouring stage. It seemed that no matter how hard we tried or what angle we poured our coffee, some of it always spilled over the pouring spout and onto the countertop.

Our Black & Decker 12-Cup SmartBrew Coffeemaker is designed to prevent these awful spills and the design is nothing short of brilliant. For the first time in a long time, we are very pleased with the lightweight carafe that comes with a inexpensive coffeemaker.

~ Cool Ergonomic Carafe Handle

Whenever I see the word ergonomic on a product, I believe that the manufacturer has taken some serious consideration of consumer injury during designing of that product. In the case of this attractive coffeemaker, Black & Decker has done precisely that. The handle is actually built a lot better than most that I have ever handled. This white plastic handle is made much thicker and more rounded, making grasping, holding and pouring the coffee much, much easier and less strenuous on the wrist. We love it!

~Lighted On/Off Switch

The simplicity of this sleek white coffeemaker is what caught my hubby’s eye while checking and comparing coffeemaker after coffeemaker in the small appliance aisle in Wal-Mart. Although I would have preferred a few additional features like a digital clock and programmable feature, he decided that simple is better these days. He felt that the quick flicking of the On/Off switch was perfect for our needs since I am no longer a slave to an alarm clock and usually make my coffee at whatever time I roll out of bed in the mornings. He was, once again, right on. I had to admit that the bright orange glow on the On/Off switch was really all that we needed.

Sometimes we do make coffee in the evenings. The lighted switch is a great safety feature, reminding us that we still have the coffeemaker turned on before heading off to bed.

~Special Markings for Water Fill/Coffee Brew

I will admit that this feature of our new affordable coffeemaker surprised me. The left and right sides of the water reservoir are lined to show exactly how much water is poured into the reservoir. What is so special is that the carafe is marked with two indicator levels, advising the coffee connoisseur that if “x” amount of water is poured into the water reservoir, then “y” amount of coffee will be yielded! This takes the guesswork out of trying to figure this out. Love this feature!

~Sneak-A-Cup Interrupt Feature

Now, if you are anything like we are, sometimes we just can’t wait for the coffee to finish brewing before we just have to have some. The ability to pull the pot out during the brewing process and snatch a cup of coffee without having it pour down onto the hot plate is fabulous. I think that those old fashioned coffee machines that do not offer this feature are definitely obsolete and should be replaced as soon as possible.

~Cleaning

Cleaning this coffeemaker is rather easy, too. I let my spouse do it each and every time. Seriously, for those who are not so lucky to have a personal coffeemaker cleaner, just remember to wash the carafe in warm soapy water after each and every use. It is also top rack dishwasher safe, made quite durably. It is not necessary nor is it recommended to use harsh chemicals or strong cleaners to clean the body of the coffeemaker, either. We wipe ours down with a damp soft cloth or a simple mild liquid cleaner.

Be sure to inspect the carafe for cracks or breaks in the glass. Remember to never leave the carafe on the hot plate if all of the liquid is gone because the carafe will burn and eventually break. Also, never reheat coffee in the carafe on the top of the stove.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

My husband and I are very pleased with out smart buying decision. The Black & Decker 12-Cup SmartBrew Coffeemaker is ideal for our needs and offers a number of great features for a very low ticket price.

If you are in need of a basic, attractive, easy to clean innovatively designed coffeemaker that won’t break the family budget, I highly recommend buying and using the Black & Decker SmartBrew Coffeemaker.
