Reviews:
Pros: Very compact for traveling, makes the amount of coffee that I want. Easy to use and quick.
Weaknesses: Haven’t really found any thing of importance yet.
I travel quite a bit and have to have something compact and sturdy. This qualifies perfectly and also makes a darn good cup of coffee.
Brew ‘N Go for a Fast Mug ‘O Joe
Pros: Compact size, fast brewing, easy cleanup.
Weaknesses: Hard to read fill line. Outside of mug can get hot.
After using a Braun KF400 coffee maker for a number of years, I decided to look for an alternative that was smaller, faster and easier to clean. I am the only coffee drinker in my household, so I rarely made a full pot with the Braun. At home, I would generally make coffee on the weekends (the coffee at work is fine) and would pour from the pot into an insulated mug. So the idea of brewing right into the insulated mug was appealing.
Enter the Black and Decker DCM18S. The mug holds 15.5 ounces of java, which was about what I was making in the Braun. I’ve owned the machine about 3 weeks now and have made coffee about 8 times. Personally, I find that 2 level coffee scoops work well for a full mug. I ordered from Amazon after failing to find the product in either Target, Linens ‘n Things or Bed Bath and Beyond.
I find the taste on par with the Braun, although I’d probably give the Braun a slight edge. The convenience of the DCM18S was worth the switch. Just simply fill the reservoir to the full line, put the coffee into the permanent filter, put some milk in the mug, cover the mug and press the ON switch. The coffee will flow off the lid, into the mug. You can also keep the lid off if you want to add sugar and stir. I don’t use sugar, so putting the lid on while brewing helps keep the temperature high.
Clean up is easy. Just empty the filter of the grinds, rinse the filter, and clean out the mug. With the Braun, I had to clean the pot and the two piece cover, plus the mug. Since the warming plate was hot, I’d usually put a little water in the pot and return it to the plate while it cooled down. Otherwise, someone could get burned because they wouldn’t know the plate was still hot. With the DCM18S, there is no hot plate, so there’s no risk of getting burned by it.
I did try using a Melitta #1 paper filter instead of the permanent filter once. It was a little small for two scoops of coffee, so there is a chance that the grinds could spill over the filter and into the coffee. In my one test, I didn’t get grinds in the coffee, but the permanent filter rinses out easily enough and you save the expense of paper filters.
A couple of minor gripes. While the handle on the mug is comfortable, the body of the mug is somewhat hot if you hold it in hand. The other gripe is that the fill line inside the reservoir is hard to read. I have a Brita water pitcher so I want to pour from the pitcher direct into the reservoir, and avoid pouring into the mug first.
Overall, I’m quite pleased with the Brew ‘N Go. My rating is closer to 4.5 stars, but because of the quibbles and the fact that the taste of the Braun gets a slight edge, I chose 4 stars instead of 5.
Pros: Compact and looks great. Great for a single cup of coffee. Cleans very easily.
Weaknesses: The mug has a lid that will become loose with time. Will updat e review if I notice others.
Bought this coffeemaker after realizing that I was wasting coffee by using a big 12 cupper just to make a single cup. Its a stylish looking coffeemaker and its small enough that it doesn’t take up too much room on the countertop. I am using it with a blade grinder with light beans to make a cup of black coffee. I was afraid that I might be forced to use it with the supplied mug (like other coffeemakers can only be used with the supplied carafe, e.g. models seen in motel rooms), but that is not the case, it can be used to brew into any mug of your choice. Overall, a great value for less than $20.
Best Coffee Maker I’ve Purchased
Pros: Fast, Compact Size, No Paper Coffee Filters
Weaknesses: Hard to Read Fill Line; Outside of Mug gets Hot
I ordered it from Amazon on Friday and it was here on Tuesday. I love the fresh coffee taste for each cup I have without having to stand over it and pour the hot water like in the manual systems. Since the mug gets hot I just use it like the coffee pot of larger systems. The fill line is hard to see unless the light is just right, but that is no longer a problem since I can do it by memory now. It brews in just a couple of minutes and you are ready to go. I wish I would have found this product years ago.
Blew’N Go Black and Decker
Pros: Compact and quick + auto turn off
Weaknesses: Cup gets hot + hard to see fill line in reservoir wish it came in white (or office beige!)
This product is nice and compact. I purchased it so I would no longer need to bring a thermos to work with coffee. The coffee is brewed fast and hot, with very little evaporation. I would also recommend this item for tea drinkers…saves a trip to the cafeteria.
Brew ‘N Go DCM18S Coffee Maker (1 Cup, Black)
Pros: Self-contained cup helps keep coffee hot for a longer period than usual.
Weaknesses: Unfortunately, it is not good for making spanish or expresso coffee.
Over all, it is a good, useful product for office use. It makes a good cup of coffee of reasonable strength and flavor. Many in my work office have commented how compact it is and have been motivated to ask to taste-test it… then, have commented how enjoyable it’s taste is.
Good Cup of Coffee!
Pros: Easy to use
Brews quickly
Weaknesses: I don’t care for the built in filter; prefer the paper ones.
This is actually my second Brew ‘N Go coffee maker - I am taking this one to work. I find it very easy to use and have none of the problems that some have indicated. I use a paper filter because it is easier for clean-up. I have no trouble with the coffee grinds getting into the cup, and I have not experienced any problem with the on/off switch. I use a regular cup rather than the travel cup because I don’t drink that much at one time, and it is easier to use. I put a rounded tablespoon of coffee to 8 oz of water. True, some of the water evaporates, but I try to allow for that in the amount of water I start with. I give this an A+.
Pros: Makes only one 15 oz cup of coffee. Great to grab and go in the mornings.
Weaknesses: If you don’t get the right mixture of coffee and water it will make a terrible cup of coffee. I wish it came with a one cup measuring device.
I really have enjoyed my first one cup coffee maker. I bought it for my home. I liked it so much that I bought one to keep at my work place. I really like having coffee made one cup at a time and steaming hot. It doesn’t sit for long periods of time. Also, if you want flavored coffee you don’t have to make a whole pot to go to waste. Very economical!! I had read reviews that stated it comes on at will. So I was a little afraid of it at first and kept unplugging it. But the a few times I forgot and left it plugged in. It has never came on by itself. They must have fixed that problem. ![]()
Pros: compact size, quick brewing, convenient, sturdy mug, cheap!
Weaknesses: no off switch, no timer
I picked this up for about 20 bucks, and had it up and running right away. It is great for anyone who has hectic mornings like me. You can just add the milk and sugar to the bottom of the mug, and the coffee will drip right into the mug! Perfect! I brewed dunkin donuts coffee beans in it, and the coffee tasted just as good as the store. I recommend it!
DCM18S Coffee Maker
Pros: Handy, easy to use, brews perfect single cup quickly, permanent filter
Weaknesses: beacuse it has a metal cup, cannot reheat the cup on the microwave
I had this before and I bought another one at Amazon when they had a sale. Excellent coffee maker for a single user since it brews hot coffee quickly. It would be nice if they included a spare cup.
Black Decker coffee maker
Pros: Compact design-takes up little space
Weaknesses: Looks cheap
This coffee maker is perfect for me, because I am the only one who drinks coffee in this house. And I don’t drink more than two cups a day. So this size of this coffee maker suits me. Besides, it is small, can sit on my desk, without taking much space. It is also easy to be taken out.
Brew ‘N Go Review
