I was looking for just your average coffee maker, not a space-age, intelligent micro-chip wonder and I find that this coffee-maker fulfills my needs. I checked out Krups and Barista as I’d heard from friends that these are great for mochas, lattes, cappuccinos etc but dismissed them as all I really wanted was a filter coffee maker, if I need something more specialized I get more enjoyment from someone else making it for me and jazz music in the background.

In my mornings all I want from a machine is that it’s simple and I don’t have to open my eyes too far before that first cup. The filter is fixed inside and swings open which is much better than having to slot it back in where the coffee goes everywhere if you miss the first time. The filter lifts out for easy cleaning which is also a neat feature.

One of the best things about this maker is the speed with which it produces really good coffee, I always leave the coffee strength on high for those first morning caffeine doses. You can even take the jug out and pour whilst it’s still making the coffee without drips which my last maker would have punished me for.

The downside is that you have to buy paper filters which isn’t too bad a downside but the problem with paper filters is that on rare occasions if you’re not paying too much attention the filter will fold itself over when you’re swinging it back inside so that when you pour in the water and switch on the machine the water might just pour outside of the pot. This has only happened to me once and it happened to be the one occasion where I was nowhere near the kitchen so that when I came back for my lovely cup of coffee it was all over the floor. I wasn’t so desperate as to squeeze the coffee from the sponge into the cup but it was a close thing !

I highly recommend this though for anyone who just wants a plain cup of coffee, it’s quick, easy to use, and produces a good quality cup of coffee. I don’t like to mess around when it comes to coffee !
