I purchased the 454 S about 6 months ago and haven’t had a moment of regret. With Capresso’s burr grinder on the machine, it consistently delivers a great pot of coffee.

My last grind and brew was from Cuisinart. While that pot was decent enough, this one has better features that allow for faster and easier cleanability. The basket swings from the grinder to over the pot, eliminating the problem I had with steam getting into the grinder and essentially making everything sticky. You don’t have to clean the grinder on the S 454 every day as you do with the Cuisinart. In addition, the 454 measures out how much it’s grinding and you always get the same amount of ground beans in the basket. The grinder holds several pots worth of coffee and doesn’t require constant attention, which is a major plus for me. I’m so excited that I don’t have to take apart and clean out my coffee pot on a daily basis anymore.

I love that there’s also a 2-4 cup cycle that will brew the pot slower and ensure that even with such a small amount of coffee, you still get excellent flavor.

I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the temperature. I agree that the coffee could definitely be a bit hotter, but don’t think that minor problem even remotely weighs against the greatness of this machine. I’ll never go back to blade grinders again and will probably stick with Capresso as long as they’re putting out a quality product.
