About four months ago I purchased a coffemaker because i found it for a good price ($59.) and I thought it was very attractive. I was not thrilled with the look of most other coffeemakers in this price range. But ever since its first use I have had othing but problems with it. The first thing I noticed is that the spring loaded mechanism that keeps the coffee from dripping onto the hotplate if you remove the carafe while coffee is still brewing was so tight you really have to jerk it to get it to come out (the carafe). You also have to pull it out at a certain angle or the piece that holds the coffee grounds can pull out, spilling coffee grounds everywhere. Once I got the hang of it it wasnt really a big deal, but nobody else who has been to my house has been able to do it without having problems because it takes practice. Also the carafe is shaped in such a way that to pour the coffee out you have to angle it so that your hand it directly over the pouring coffee, resulting in burning steam on your hands while pouring so I just had to very quickly pour my coffee so that it would only burn my hand for a second. I quickly got used to this also. Then, a few weeks later the spring loaded thingy just popped off when i pulled out the carafe, upon inspecting it it had big chunk cracked off of it and it had a crack all the way through. After this i dug up the instruction manual, thinking there may be a number that i could call and explain this to(the broken piece) and since it is such a little part that i could get a new piece sent to me. Well, I couldnt find any phone number on the paperwork, and since it actually still worked without this piece I decided to just forget about it. Besides, I discoverd that now I didnt have the problem with the hard to pull out carafe anymore, and it was nice to be able to pull it easily. But now, Ive discovered, without that piece any drop of water that may drip onto the hotplate when you remove the caraffe peels the paint off the hotplate, so now the hotplate looks horrible. Also teh silver around teh knob right beneath the reservoir is getting all corroded looking from steam and such tsking the shiny finish off the metal. I have been very carefull to take good care of this to keep it looking nice, making sure to wipe the inside of the reservoir with a towel to keep it dry between uses so that i dont get any unattractive water spots on the reservoir since it is clear plastic and part of the design to be seen. So I am sure it is not from improper care. There is also another part along the edge that got corroded-like and the shiny finish came off also. The coffe that it makes is fine, i have no complaints about that.

Well all these little problems are reallly annoying to me and I no longer want it on my countertop because I now think it is unnatractive with the peeled off paint on the hotplate and the corroded areas on the metal. So while talking to a friend about it and asking her if she knew of any attractive , moderately priced coffemaker, she suggested I look up the company online and find a phone number to call to possibly check and see if that particular model had gotten alot of complaints and see if maybe I could get a replacemnt.

Well, I called and the customer service representative was very nice, and even though it had been more than a month gave me an authorization code to return this item to get it fixed or replaced. She also gave me the adress to send the product and instructions on how to send it. Although the customer service representative was very friendly I was dissapointed that i needed to pay (probably around 15$) to get it shipped and then wait 3 -5 weeks to get it back.

I will not be sending the product back simply because I do not want another coffeemaker like this. I really believe that the product design and materials were defective and would rather buy another brand of coffemaker.I also would need to buy another coffemaker durring the 3 - 5 week wait anyway. The 15 dollars I would have to spend on shipping would better go towards a quality product without so many problems. Although I applaud the asthetic appeal of This product ( die cast coffeemaker) and other products I have seen, It seems that In this case beaty and function do not come hand in hand. I am a little annoyed that your return policy is such a hassle and especially with something such as a coffemaker, most people cant wait 3 - 5 weeks for a coffeemaker.
