After going through several “Mr. Coffee” type drip machines in the house (with and without timers, bells and whistles), my wife brought this beast home.

Realize I’m a coffee snob - I roast my own beans, we only grind prior to brewing, and I use a K-type thermocouple digital thermometer to measure water temp, bean roast temp, etc.

That being said, there are several things to like about the DTC-975. Thermos bottle-carafe keeps coffee hot for a very, very long time - almost all day - without requiring an external burner to burn yourself on, char the coffee, etc. Very well done.

Special cap allows you to brew coffee without spilling all over the place. Brewer makes very little noise, yet the “brew complete” audio alarm rings throughout the whole house. Programmable timing function is very easy to use. Water temp is right in the range required to brew coffee well.

All this is well and good. But the coffee from any paper-filtered drip brewer pales in comparison to french press, aeropress or similarly brewed coffee. I’m talking an A/B comparison using the same fresh-roasted beans in equal quantities with appropriate water amounts. Side by side, the drip coffed is lifeless, dull and anemic in flavor.

So, if you really want drip coffee, this isn’t a bad option. I’m finding little things going wrong, like coffee slowly bubbling from the junction between the metal and plastic on the upper seam of the thermos bottle.

But the quality of the cup is everything for me - and this isn’t cutting it.
